PAWZ are fabulous Sep 07, 2009
By J. Anderson

Have used the PAWZ boots for more than 18 months now on my 85 pound german shepherd and love them. They keep his paws dry and free from mud and water. I only use them when it's wet and/or muddy and one pack lasts at least 4-6 months time it seems. Not good to put them on dogs with untrimmed nails that are real long as they can punch through the boots. Also, would not leave them on for long periods as they seal off the feet and can be snug around the leg. I have no complaints as I use them as they were designed (to keep the paws dry and mud free)and they work fabulously for that. Am purchasing some more as I type this review.

Good concept, but not for my dog's needs Jun 14, 2009
By Nancy E. Josephs I have three Australian Shepherds, two of whom are rather old (17 & 11) and arthritic and have difficulty getting around on my wood and tile floors. On the recommendation of the owner of a local pet boutique, I purchased a package of PAWZ for each of them; one in XL for my 70 lb male, the other L for my 55 lb female.
This is a great concept but, unfortunately, not a long term solution for dogs that need help with extra traction throughout the day. Both of my dogs sustained cuts around their "ankles" from the hard ring at the opening of these booties.
I'm sure PAWZ work great for the short term, but I DO NOT recommend leaving them on your dogs feet for more than a couple of hours at a time.

Work great for my dog! Feb 10, 2010
By L. Baker My dog loves to run in the snow but due to the fridgid temps and road salt it was very painful for him and cut our walks short. Purchased Pawz and am thrilled. A little awkward the first time putting them on but now no problems and my dog allows me to slip them on easily. Best part is within one minute he was walking naturally and they didn't bother him at all. Have now walked several times in deep snow, salted pavement, below 10 degree temps and he has not stopped once. He excitedly romps through the snow and I have a hard time getting him to come in.
If you keep your dogs nails trimmed the booties should last several wearings. One reviewer said these are just expensive balloons. Yes they are shaped like a balloon but are made of a thicker latex that allows movement while providing durability. I think it's a very clever idea and the price is just right.
By the way, I have a 60 lb. lab mix. Yes he looks like a sissy dog with the purple booties but he's happy and doesn't care!

Good paw protection from ice-melter Feb 04, 2011
By Michael Stawnychy I purchased the large PAWZ (purple) and medium (blue) for my two dogs.
I was looking for some way to protect my dogs' feet from the ridiculous amount of rock salt and other ice melter used during winter. We use Musher's Secret, which works great but sometimes wears away before we're home. Canvas boots from a local pet store were a lost cause so we decided to try PAWZ.
They're basically extra thick large balloons.
The good: they work. Our dogs walk right through piles of rock salt and snow without any problems. We also went romping in a foot of snow for an hour and all of the boots stayed on. Impressive!
The bad: putting them on is a two person job. One person holds the paw still while the second guides the rubber on. Our dog's nails went through the rubber on the first use. This didn't turn out to be a problem though, as the pads were still protected.
The ugly: they're actually not that bad. And they bring a smile to everyone who sees them.
As far as sizing goes: the large work well for our 85lb lab mix and the mediums are good enough for our 62lb mystery mutt.
If you don't want to invest in expensive booties that may fall off I'd recommend PAWZ.

Pretty Good!!! (SEE UPDATE!) Dec 17, 2010

Pretty good product! Tried these on my German Shepherd, recently, for protection from the winter weather. I tried the suggested size of medium, but find we really need a size large. First day, we walked for about 2-2.5 miles on concrete/asphalt roads that were snow/ice/mush covered and liberally coated with salt/gravel. All 4 Pawz held up fine through the whole walk. I did make sure my dogs toenails are trimmed, but even so, they are rather long and tough. I slathered his paw pads and surrounding area with paw cream before putting on, since his paws were getting a little sore from the weather. This seemed to make it a little easier to get these things on. I stretched them all out, too; like you do to a balloon before blowing it up. They are a bit difficult to put on, but we are working on refining our technique. These are the only boots we have ever had that seemed fairly comfortable for my dog, didn't fall off and he would walk in and not try to remove. He did not like having them put on (tried to run and hide), but once I did, he very quickly adapted to them (about 1-2 minutes) and once he figured out he could walk in them just fine, off he ran! (He normally HATES dog boots!) During our walk, he didn't seem to really notice them and seemed to like the protection. He did not walk funny, at least not much. He did slip a bit on wet ice, but that would happen with any boot or just his paws. I do wish they were a little thicker in the toenail area, so they would last longer. I would not leave them on my dog while he was unattended or for a long period of time, as I worry about them restricting his circulation, but other dog boots can do this as well. At about a dollar a piece they are a pretty good deal and cheaper than the alternative. One more thing, if your dog has 2 different size feet (back and front) it is inexpensive and easy to accommodate this by buying two different sizes. These would also be good for holding a foot bandage in place, but for this function I would buy a much larger size. Will update if I have problems. So far, pretty good! UPDATE: Well, I have to say these Pawz have exceeded my expectations and are worth the money. That said, the manufacturer has decided to change these and make them much smaller (almost one size smaller), thinner and "stickier" (harder to re-use). Very disappointed. Will use these until we find a better alternative.
