Outward Hound Cool-it Bandana - instructions for use Jun 21, 2010
By Joan Stuart I just rec'd a qty of '3' collars for my dogs, but, they came with absolutely no instructions, so I looked up instructions on another website to give others an idea on how to use them - I haven't used them yet, so I'll have to try them out and update my review in a few days.
Instructions for use:
A stylish way to keep your pet cool. Completely soak entire bandana in water for 15-30 minutes. The bandana will swell as it absorbs water to keep your pet cool for hours.
To extend cooling time, soak bandana and refrigerate before using. Air dry completely after using.
Made with non-toxic polymer crystals that can absorb up to 30 times their weight and stay cool for several hours. Has adjustable, Velcro® fastener.

Cools Our Hot Dog, but... Jul 01, 2010
By Rosetta Lovell
"Deal Hound"
We have a wonderful rescue Mastiff with only three legs (a previous owner put him in a truck bed without tying him in, and you can guess what happened). Our gentle giant is a very hot dog, and he pants all the time. We get worried about him when we go for his beloved walks - he just gets *and stays* so hot for so long. So, we ordered this bandana, and it has been WONDERFUL. Our big guy is still hot, but not nearly as hot or for as long. The size large barely fits his 25" neck, so I'm crafting a little velcro extension - no big deal. One thing I do want to mention is something that another reviewer brought up: the bandana takes a long time to dry, and even after three days in the *hot* garden window of our desert home, it still wasn't completely dry...and is starting to smell. This bandana works so well for us that we'll use it until we can't anymore, and then we'll still keep buying them - we just love it. This product would be a 5-star for us except for this issue, and I understand that this might be a deal breaker for some, but just not for us and our favorite pup. However, if you're thinking of buying this product, this is definitely something to be aware of.

Works great! Sep 11, 2008
By D. Edwards I bought this for my dog for a road trip that we took in the middle of the summer. We were driving through the Mojave Desert when it was 114 degrees outside. This really helped to keep my dog, Trudie, cool during the car ride. As you know, air conditioning is only good in that kind of heat if it's pointed directly at something. The rest of your body feels like it's in front of an open oven. The bandana helped keep Trudie cool and she never started to pant at all during the entire ride. I made the mistake of squeezing the bandana to get excess water out of it and the material that keeps the bandana moist started oozing out. So, if you buy this item, just make sure you don't squeeze it. Just let it dry on it's own. I think it was a great item and I'll be using it again on our next road trip.

Not good for long term Sep 03, 2009

"Maria in LA"
I bought two bandanas for my dog to use during class, the bandanas did not stay cold for very long but the really worst thing is that they never dry, not even in the hot dry weather of LA, so after two weeks they smelled mildewy and I had to throw them out.

Not for long haired breeds Aug 21, 2009
By Patrick K. Ericksen
"2112"
I bought this bandana for my Sheltie. I can feel the bandana working but because of his thick mane it's not reaching his skin. I think this would be an absolute must have for short haired breeds and that is the only reason I took off 1 star for my review.
