Controlled freedom for your pet Jun 01, 2009
By kbarj We ordered on Sunday and received the harness on Friday...just in time for a 3-day, 678 mile trip. Our dog is an 84 lb. American Staffordshire Terrier, who is very social and loves car trips. The harness fit well despite his odd proportions (he is a stocky dog) and seemed comfortable. He wore it the whole trip without complaint and did not fight getting into it...in fact, by the last day of the trip, he would do his "happy dance" when we brought it out because it meant we were getting ready to go.
The design of the harness is simple. Instructions were not needed (although they were provided) and the installation was quick. I like the controlled freedom it gave hime. We travel in a Toyota Sienna (mini-van). He rode on the back seat (captain's chair) behind the driver. We also put a cooler just in front of his seat and cover it (and his seat) with a pad, so he has a larger area to lie down. He could move around, and even get out of his seat, but could not roam around the car like he usually likes to do. As a result, he stayed in his seat most of the trip alternating between lying down and sitting up to look out the window. And, near the end of our trip, a car in front of us on the freeway slammed on its brakes, my wife had to brake hard. When it did, the harness worked to perfection. It kept him in his seat and under control. In the past, such an action would have put him on the floor after bouncing off the back of the seat in front of him. We are very pleased with the product.

Harness that works for Golden Retriever Nov 23, 2008
By Thule1 This harness is comfortable and stays on the dog. We have gone through three other types as our 90 lb Golden Retriever has ground to full size and this is the best of them all. I especially like the seatbelt adapters. Highly recommend this for 65-120 lb dog.

Just what I needed Sep 08, 2009
By Norodo This is a great tool for my boxer-pit bull "puppy." He's 20 months and 75 lbs. and loves to be all over the place. While this enables him to still move around a bit, and get to the window, he's not flying around the back seat, as he had been.

Better than most on the market May 14, 2010
By Liz in Indy I've been in the kennel business for a number of years and this is one of the nicest car safety harnesses I've seen. Nicely padded, easy to get on & off, separate clip so you can leave the hook in the car in between trips, and keep the harness available for walking. The straps seem sturdy and clips are tight (a good thing). The dogs seem comfortable with them on -- I have an extra-large and a small dog. I've walked them both with the harnesses on -- it works very well for that. I'm happy with the quality & it is a good price. I think only the breeds with a huge girth would have a problem with sizing -- my 100# GSD fits comfortably with room to adjust for an even bigger dog. I have no problem recommending this product.

Restrain your dog inside a vehicle Jun 08, 2010
By D. F. Wells
"Parnassus in the Desert"
My family includes three dogs of different sizes and temperaments. We had to take them on a long trip with us to a state that requires dogs to be restrained in vehicles, and none of them had ever gone in the car except to the vet and a local walking trail. We didn't have time to acclimate them to the restraints. The Solvit Harness had good reviews so we took a chance and got three of them: an Extra Large (120 lb Anatolian Shepherd), a Large for the Lab X (65 lbs), and one Medium for a Wire-Hair Terrier X (35 lbs). We also bought a back seat "hammock" that stretched between the front and back seats. The Anatolian had the back cargo area.
The dogs felt so secure in these harnesses that after about 10 miles into the 1100 mile trip, they were curled up sound asleep. Even when awake the dogs rarely struggled against the harnesses to get to us. We stopped about every 300 miles to stretch everyone's legs and could walk them in the harnesses. When we returned the dogs to their seats we just clipped them in to the extension that came with each harness. The soft inner side of the harnesses meant no chaffing while they slept of moved around.
This product worked well, endured a lot of use and was a huge relief to all of us. We never travel without them now.
