Put together easily - Locks need ammunition! Sep 04, 2010 So cutting the hole in the door was the worst part. Took a few tries but then the thing slipped into place, locked well, and was stable enough for my little cat.
The locks are weird tho. It's these tiny little knobs that work - but only if your cat doesn't barrel into the thing at full speed. It's like holding your weight by your fingernail. And locking the thing both ways is a PAIN. The slide doesn't like to slide - it jerks through the grooves, the knobs don't like to be moved - you sometimes have to push them down by hand. Frankly if I could recommend anything to the manufacturer One big "biscuit" - like tab (The construction biscuits vs dowels) would be enough. If people want to lock the cat out or in they'd raise the biscuit on either side of the plastic door. And locking it into place would be more secure with a larger-than-baby-toe-pinky-nail surface as well.
but once I got it together - I wasn't about to take it apart to then leave a nice hole in my door...
Works for the most part Feb 26, 2010 Forget the lock, Forget using it on an exterior door. If your like me and are looking for a simple way to allow your cat's to walk threw a closed interior door without using the door knob as one of my wise little friends has mastered BTW. This is a simple to install (assuming you can use a jig saw.)cost effective way to do it.

Only fits one size of door Jan 02, 2010 As others have stated, this is a cheaply made cat door, don't buy it. Besides the terribly designed locking mechanism, the door you install this in must be exactly a certain thickness, otherwise the front and back halves will not mount properly. In addition, the back half does not even screw into the door or the other half, instead, it is held on by taping it to the door! If you're trusting like me, you'll realize all this after you cut the hole in the door.

You get what you pay for. Nov 20, 2009 I have a cat and have multiple doors. One to go outside and one to go to the room where the litter box is stored. I purchased the petsafe aluminum door for my exterior door and have been extremely pleased. it was easy to install and works well. My only complaint was that it was pretty costly everywhere I looked. I purchased this door for an interior door that led to where the litter box was stored. While it was inexpensive and easy to install I was dissapointed that the interior portion of the door wasnt telescoping. What I mean is that I have a pretty standard hollowcore door and the interior of the door is exposed because the designers of this product hadn't left enough plastic to create a seamless tunnel(whereas they did on the other model pet door) For this reason it got 3 stars. I dont mess with the 4 way lock so I cant comment on how well it functions.

You get what you pay for Sep 05, 2009 Lock mechanism broke after one day. Made a jimcrack replacement, but as others here attest, the switch is a problem. Door popped out of alignment, came out of frame. A total waste of money. Much happier with the "Ideal Pet" brand version of this item.
